My momma always said, “Bloom where you’re planted.”
She was full of colorful idioms. And her sayings come to my mind often. This one has come to mind more often these days. Especially since I feel “planted” in this hothouse of a pandemic. The wisdom of it rings clear. Now especially, is the time to bloom right where I am.
Blooming takes time. A plant must reach maturity first. And blooms don’t last forever. They fade, fall off, and sometimes, bloom again. But during the time they are here they bring bursts of color and joy. And not without a purpose. Blooms attract the pollinators who, in turn, help the plant to bear fruit. Blooms also hold the seed. And the seed is the promise of a future.
Taking my mom’s words to heart, I’m using this time to build new skills; to hone my craft and become (hopefully) a better designer, marketer, partner, and friend. In short, to grow into a better version of myself. And I hope to spread some positive energy to those I connect with.
I’m particularly inspired by my friend, Philip’s story of overcoming adversity and a tenacious will to grow. He was recently interviewed by his local news station. I hope you find it inspiring, too.
Here’s to continued growth and the hope of an abundant future!
