All summer I’ve had a stall at the local farmer’s market. You don’t sell design services that way so what the heck am I doing?
My core services are still all about advertising, corporate marketing, and communications graphics. Don’t worry, dear clients, I’m not giving that up. I’m adding to my skillset with a side gig.
About a year ago I began exploring the exciting design field of surface pattern design and by doing so have reignited passions that led me to choose a graphic design career in the first place. I’m building a new portfolio of products and developing an illustration style that is both satisfying to create and hopefully enjoyed by others when it is launched into the world in the coming months.
To create a portfolio is a massive undertaking. I need to generate art. I need to stay with a schedule and have meaningful deadlines. Unfortunately, I am often like the barefoot cobbler who makes shoes for everyone but himself.
The Farmer’s Market supplies the structure, commitment, and accountability I need to keep creating new products and trying new ideas. It is my surface design incubator with a weekly deadline to display my art to a small and kindly audience. Follow me on IG to see more of my surface pattern adventure.
